Lobacevskij

Coffee tables

Design: Isao Hosoe

Production: Tonelli, Italy, 1992

Nikolaj Ivanovic Lobacevskij was the first man at the beginning of the 19th century to conceive space outside the scheme of Euclidean geometry.

Lobacevskij did not like linearity, he flew in thinking, writing and in the shapes created by his non-Euclidean geometry.

I was keen on the lightness and the immateriality of his shapes so much so as to be driven to design objects of daily use like the small tables.

The Lobacevskij coffee tables constitute a family of different shapes and dimensions. The top shapes elude every spatial scheme and the transparent legs with cheerful and bright colours bring small joy to whoever uses them.
