Light+ Jacksonian
Washbasin
Design: Isao Hosoe with Masaya Hashimoto and Elena Rescali
Production: Kale, Turkey, 2011
It is always surprising how elegant and powerful shapes obtained from a simple sheet of paper can be. When operations are reduced to a minimum, as in the case of the Light+ Jacksonian washbasin, the purity and lightness of the materials are emphasized.
A simple touch, a light pressure with the fingers is enough to achievet the shape of this washbasin -then made of Corian- starting from a paper model, the behaviour it emulates.
The folding technique applied, called Jacksonian, as it has been studied and theorized by Paul Jackson, actually brakes the basic constraints of classical origami, in which creases must extend to the boundaries, in order to get a different nature of shapes and curves.
